American Express - The Centurion Lounge

2 · D12 Open · Sunday - Saturday: 5:00 am-11:00 pm

Temporary space near Gate D12 while the big T3 lounge sleeps

This American Express Centurion Lounge sits in Terminal 2 by gate D12 and runs daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. It’s the stopgap option while the larger Terminal 3 Centurion stays closed, so think "compact backup" rather than flagship hub. Entry is still restricted to Amex Centurion and Platinum cardholders and eligible guests, and you must be flying the same day out of SFO.

Terminal 2 security feeds straight toward the D10–D18 cluster, and the lounge sits right in that D12 zone, so it works best for D-gates on Alaska or American. Walking from the Terminal 1/2 connector adds about 5–10 minutes, and coming from Terminal 3 means using the post-security connector and budgeting closer to 15 minutes gate-to-gate.

Food is more limited than the old T3 setup, with a small buffet and snacks rather than a full hot spread, but it still beats most Terminal 2 grab-and-go options near D5 and D6. Drinks remain complimentary for Amex guests, including basic cocktails and wine, which easily offsets a $12–$18 terminal bar tab at places along the D concourse.

Seating runs tight in the early morning bank from 5:30 am to 8:00 am and again in the late afternoon before the 4:00 pm–7:00 pm departures. Outlets line many of the wall seats, but not every chair, so grabbing a spot near the window side of the room helps if your laptop battery is already at 20%.

Showers are not a thing in this temporary build-out, and there’s less workspace than you’d find in the old Terminal 3 Centurion, so plan for email triage, not a multi-hour work session with video calls. Wi‑Fi runs faster than the free SFO network in Terminal 2, usually enough for a quick 30–40 minute upload before boarding at D12 or D14.

Tip: If you’re connecting in from Terminal 3, use the post-security walkway, head straight to D12, and cap your stay at about 45 minutes so you’re not sprinting back to a C-gate or the far end of Terminal 2.
