Africa Lounge

A · A5 (across from) ★ 4 $$$$

Across from Gate A5, this is the rare bar with seats

Africa Lounge sits on the Main Terminal A concourse across from gate A5, just far enough from the central food court that you can usually walk in and sit down, even when SEA feels shoulder-to-shoulder. It runs as a full bar with table service, so it’s a solid backup when spots closer to central security are on a wait.

Figure mid-$$ pricing: draft beers often land in the $9–$12 range and cocktails push into double digits, which lines up with other SEA sit-down bars. The food menu leans pub-style with burgers, fish and chips, and wings, but most reviews call it “fine” rather than memorable, especially if you know what those prices buy you in downtown Seattle.

Hours flex with flight banks, but Africa Lounge usually opens for morning departures and stays going into late evening, covering the churn of Alaska and Delta traffic out of the A gates. It’s post-security in the Main Terminal, so you’re set once you’re past the central checkpoint; walking from the A security exit to A5 is roughly 5–7 minutes.

Regulars on Yelp and Reddit say the move is to sit at the bar instead of a table, partly because the bar counter has more outlets than the nearby concourse seating and partly because the bartenders are quicker on refills. If you do eat, the consensus “get” is the fish and chips or a basic burger with fries, and maybe skip anything that sounds fancier than it needs to be.

Watch out for sticker shock on drinks, slow checks when the place is understaffed, and food that feels like standard airport bar grub at city-restaurant prices. Tip: if your flight boards from A1–A10, budget 60–75 minutes before departure, grab a bar stool by an outlet, order a beer, and use it as your last plug-in stop before you head to the gate.
