Walk-through duty free sits right after SDQ security: Dufry Original

Dufry Original is the main walk-through duty free in Las Américas International Airport, positioned immediately after the central security checkpoint in the departures area. You literally pass through it on the way to the international gates, so you don’t need to detour off your path. The store carries the standard Dominican mix: rum, cigars, perfume, cosmetics, and some local coffee brands. Post-security only, so this is not useful for greeters or arrivals meeting people upstairs.

Liquor shelves lean heavily on Dominican labels like Brugal and Barceló, often in 1L and 750ml duty free formats that you won’t see at the same prices in the city. You’ll also find Caribbean rums from neighboring islands plus a few upper-shelf whiskies and tequilas. Prices on local rum usually beat what you see in tourist-zone supermarkets by a few dollars a bottle. If you’re connecting onward to the US, remember the TSA liquid rules when you re-clear security at your next airport.

Cigar cabinets feature Dominican brands such as La Aurora and Arturo Fuente in single sticks and small packs, with humidor boxes along the back wall. Staff typically bring cigars out from behind glass, so budget an extra 5–10 minutes if you want help choosing. Lighters and cutters sit in the same section, which helps if you forgot accessories in Santo Domingo. For anything serious or collectible, prices and storage conditions back in the city will usually be better.

The beauty section runs along one side of the walkthrough, with international perfume lines like Dior, Lancôme, and Chanel, plus travel-sized skincare kits that fit easily in a carry-on. Promotional bundles and 2-for deals change monthly, and clearance tags often sit near the aisle closest to the gate corridor. Staff are quick with testers but not overly pushy, so you can make a quick spray-and-go stop if boarding starts in 20 minutes.

Snacks and last-minute gifts sit near the exit toward the gates, including Dominican coffee, chocolate, and basic travel items like chargers and neck pillows. Expect airport markups on tech accessories compared with Santo Domingo electronics shops. If you’re tight on time, walk straight through to the far right where the checkout counters sit; pay there and you’re already pointed toward the boarding gates.

Tip: If your boarding pass time is under 30 minutes away, skip browsing the back aisles and stick to the first liquor shelves and the front cigar counter so you don’t get stuck behind tour groups at checkout.
