Right after security in SDQ, Dufry Garden pulls you through a full walkthrough duty free loop.

This is the main duty free store at Las Américas International Airport, part of the newer walkthrough concept Dufry opened here in 2022. You hit it immediately after security and passport control, before you reach the bulk of the gates. If you need last‑minute liquor, perfume, or gifts before a flight out of Santo Domingo, this is the first serious stop.

Dufry Garden runs on typical duty free hours, broadly aligned with SDQ’s international departures schedule, so early morning flights around 05:00 and late-night departures near 23:00 still see it open. Prices on rum can be better than city shops, especially on Dominican labels in 1L and 750ml bottles. International spirits, cosmetics, and chocolates track usual Caribbean airport duty free pricing: not a steal, not outrageous.

Local focus here skews to Dominican cigars and rum, including recognizable brands you see in town plus some travel-retail-only gift packs. You’ll also find standard global perfumes, makeup counters, and confectionery walls with big formats aimed at gifting. Snacks and bottled water cost more than in the public landside cafés, but they’re still cheaper than many onboard buy-on-board menus on US and European airlines.

There’s no strong reason to linger if you’ve no interest in duty free, but the walkthrough layout means you’ll pass through at least once on the way to most international gates. If you want time to compare rum or fragrance prices, add 10 extra minutes to your walk from check-in to the gate area so you’re not rushing decisions at the till.
