$12/day gets you on-airport, walkable parking at SDF

The Surface Parking Lot at Louisville Muhammad Ali International (Main terminal) runs $12 per day, undercutting the $20/day garage while still keeping you on airport property with about a 5-minute walk to check-in. It’s long-term, uncovered, and priced for people who care more about cost and location than having a roof over the car.

Short stays are cheap here: the first 10 minutes are free, then it’s $1 for 11–60 minutes and $3 for 1–2 hours, so it often beats the garage for drop-offs if you want to walk someone inside instead of looping the curb. Drivers doing a quick walk-in pickup use that free window to park, meet their passenger in baggage claim, and be out before the meter starts running.

For trips, the math helps: the posted weekly rate is $72 per week with a “seventh day free” setup, then $12 per additional day. Regulars on 3–5 day runs say this lot is their default because it’s materially cheaper than the garage but still close enough that they don’t bother with shuttles. Compared with off-airport hotel lots that can drop under $6/day, you’re paying a bit more here for the walkable, on-airport tradeoff.

The Surface Lot is big, with 1,562 spaces showing on the official occupancy feed, but it can still hit 100% full on Derby and big event weekends. When that happens, staff redirect drivers to Express or Premier, which means a different daily rate than the $12 you budgeted. Frequent users enroll in the airport’s Frequent Parker Program so Surface stays in their earn-and-burn rotation for free days.

SDF now supports AeroParker reservations across Garage, Surface, Premier East/West, and Express Shuttle, so locals pre-book the Surface Lot for holidays to avoid the “lot full” sign. On wet or icy days, remember the 5-minute walk is fully exposed, so pack an umbrella or jacket in hand instead of buried in your checked bag.
