Cigar Shop

Cohiba logos give this away as the Cigar Shop in T1

This small Cigar Shop sits airside in Terminal 1 (SCU), past security and within a short walk of most gates. It focuses on Cuban cigars only, with boxes and singles from familiar brands like Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagás, and Romeo y Julieta. Stock in Santiago de Cuba can be hit-or-miss across town, so having an airport option inside T1 is useful if you ran out of time in the city.

You pay airport pricing here: single sticks often run higher than in state shops in Santiago, and sealed boxes can creep above 150–200 USD depending on brand and vitola. Payment usually works in euros or cards that function in Cuba; US cards still often fail. If you care about authenticity, buy only boxes with correct Habanos seals and holograms and avoid anything offered “from the back” at a discount.

Quality control matters more than labels at this shop. Open the lid and check for even color on the cigars, no white fuzz (mold), and no deep cracks at the cap. Humidity in Santiago can swing past 80%, so ask how the shop stores stock before grabbing older boxes. If they let you, lightly squeeze the foot of a cigar; aim for firm but not rock-hard, which hints at tight draws later.

Plan a few extra minutes before boarding from T1 to look around, since prices won’t be quick-bargain levels. The smart play: buy a couple of mid-range singles to smoke later and save big-box shopping for trusted shops in Havana or central Santiago.
