Centropuerto

Airport bus

Airport bus 35-60 min to Pajaritos (airport → Pajaritos leg) $2-5

Solo or in a pair, $2–5 gets you into Santiago

Centropuerto runs airport buses from SCL’s T1/T2 to Pajaritos in about 35–60 minutes, with departures every 10–20 minutes from roughly 06:00 to 23:00. This is the budget move for daytime arrivals if you can manage a bus plus Metro Line 1 combo.

The stop sits outside the terminals in the shared Centropuerto / TurBus loading area, and that shared bay is where first-timers sometimes board the wrong green bus. Look for the Centropuerto branding on the front and side before you pay the $2–5 fare on board or at the curbside booth.

Most people ride only to Pajaritos, an intermodal hub directly on Metro Line 1, instead of staying on the bus all the way toward central Santiago. Reddit regulars point out that bus-only into town crawls in peak traffic, while Line 1 from Pajaritos to stops like Los Héroes or Baquedano usually beats the road by 15–20 minutes in rush hour.

If your hotel sits along Lines 2, 3, 4, or 5, factor in one extra metro transfer or a 10–15 minute walk after leaving Line 1 at a main interchange. That extra leg matters more at night, when Centropuerto’s frequency reportedly drops below the daytime 10–20 minute pattern and you do not want to miss the last easy connection.

Onboard, expect a fairly plain coach with luggage in the aisle during crunch times, especially mid-morning and early evening banks when several widebodies land between about 09:00–11:00 and 18:00–20:00. Standing with a backpack is normal; with two 23 kg checked bags, this feels less fun than an Uber or taxi.

How to ride Centropuerto step by step

  • 1. From arrivals in T1 or T2, walk outside and follow signs or crowds to the Centropuerto / TurBus bays; ignore anyone in the hall trying to sell you rides.
  • 2. At the curb, find the blue-and-white Centropuerto bus and double-check the logo so you do not end up on TurBus by accident.
  • 3. Buy a one-way ticket from the small booth or directly from the driver with cash for about $2–5, then grab a seat near the front if you want to exit quickly at Pajaritos.
  • 4. Stay alert for the “Pajaritos” stop, usually around 35–60 minutes from the airport depending on traffic, and follow the crowd off the bus.
  • 5. Inside Pajaritos, load or tap a Bip! card at the Metro Line 1 machines, pass through the gates, and ride Line 1 toward central stations like Los Héroes or Baquedano.

One final tip: regulars load or top up a Bip! card in the city before flying out of SCL so that, on the return, they can step off Centropuerto at Pajaritos and head straight through the metro gates without joining the ticket machine queue.
