T1’s Andesgear is your last-minute outdoor backup plan
Gate-side in Terminal T1, Andesgear focuses on outdoor and trekking gear you forgot to pack. Expect racks of fleece layers, softshell jackets, caps, gloves, and daypacks built for Patagonia-style weather, all inside the main departures zone of SCL. Prices lean toward downtown Chile retail levels rather than souvenir-stand markup, but you’re still paying airport premiums on big brands.
This is post-security in T1, so you can shop after immigration without stressing about re-clearing. Stock tends to skew toward cool-weather layers and rain protection, which makes sense if you’re flying on LATAM or Sky to the south of Chile from this terminal. Footwear options exist but are limited; think basic trekking shoes, not a full-size wall like a city store.
Figure on paying full Chilean list price for recognizable logos, with smaller items like technical socks, quick-dry tees, and buffs sometimes coming in under 15,000–20,000 CLP. Hardware like trekking poles and compact packs usually sits in the 40,000–80,000 CLP band, so this is more “patch a gap” than “outfit an entire hike” shopping. Staff generally speak at least basic English and are used to people sprint-shopping between flights.
If you have under 20 minutes before boarding in T1, head straight to Andesgear with a short list: thermal layer, waterproof shell, socks. Don’t plan a full comparison shop here; treat it as an insurance stop before you fly toward Torres del Paine or Puerto Montt with LATAM out of this terminal.
