Gate 45 in T2 is where the smoke hits you first

Phil’s B.B.Q. sits near gate 45 in Terminal 2, past security, so this is an option only after you’re cleared. It runs typical airport hours, roughly from early-morning departures through the last evening banks, but the real draw is lunch and dinner. Lines spike around the 11:30–13:30 window when multiple T2 flights to DEN, SEA, and ORD cluster.

Menu is straight San Diego Phil’s: ribs, pulled pork, sausages, and chicken, all with that sweet-tangy sauce regulars know from the off-airport locations. Expect airport pricing: plan on around $15–$22 for a meat plate with sides and $10–$14 for a sandwich. Portions run slightly smaller than the original spots in Point Loma and Santee, but still heavier than your average terminal salad.

Best bets: a rib or pulled pork plate, plus one specific side like the baked beans or fries; they travel reasonably well in a to-go box for a 2–3 hour flight. Fried items sit under heat lamps, so skip anything that’s been in the case more than 15–20 minutes. Sauces come in portion cups, so ask for an extra one or two if you’re taking food to gate 45 or down the concourse.

Seating is shared with nearby Terminal 2 dining, so during the 17:00–19:00 bank it can be hard to find a table within 20–30 feet. If your boarding pass shows a tight sub-40-minute connection through SAN, this spot is risky; the line can eat 15–25 minutes alone. One practical move: order everything boxed, grab extra napkins, and eat at your gate while you watch the boarding queue.
