Gate 39 caffeine stop in Terminal 2
Right by Gate 39 in Terminal 2, Pannikin Coffee & Tea is the non-chain option if you want something different from the big logos in SAN. It’s past security, so this is a true pre-boarding grab. Expect standard airport pricing, with drip coffee running a bit higher than street level but still under typical lounge-day-pass money.
Pannikin leans on classic espresso drinks and brewed coffee, plus a mix of teas that actually match the name on the sign. You’ll see the usual lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos pulled to order, better than the push-button machines you’ll hit near some other gates in Terminal 2. If you care about tea, this stand gives you more than one lonely green bag in a metal tin.
Food is basic: think pastry-case support for your caffeine, not a full breakfast. Expect muffins, croissants, and maybe a cookie or two, priced in the mid-single digits. If you need a fuller meal, use this for coffee and then walk a few gates down in T2 for something with actual protein.
Lines spike before the 7:00–9:00 a.m. bank of departures from Gate 39 and nearby gates, and service moves at normal airport speed, not lightning-fast bar-cart speed. Build in at least 10 extra minutes ahead of boarding if you want a made-to-order drink here instead of settling for the drip urn at another stand.
