First Class Lounge

First class section access in T1 just tightened

In Terminal 1 at King Khalid (RUH), Saudia runs this airline-operated First Class Lounge, but FlyerTalk regulars report that a policy change now keeps business-class passengers out of the true first-class section. If you were relying on Flying Blue Platinum or similar elite status on a J ticket, expect to be routed to the business lounge instead of this area.

This lounge sits airside in Terminal 1, so you need to clear security before heading over from your gate area. It’s part of Saudia’s Alfursan setup, and access rules lean heavily on first-class boarding passes and the right elite tiers with Saudia or SkyTeam partners. Double-check your booking class and card level before you leave the main concourse in T1; FlyerTalk posts show the access tweak caught frequent flyers off guard.

On the food and drink side, one trip report on the Alfursan First Lounge at RUH mentions that the non-alcohol drinks are “just okay,” with fewer fruit juices and zero smoothies than expected in a first-class space. Expect soft drinks, water, and basic juices as standard, but don’t bank on anything elaborate from the bar area, and remember that alcohol isn’t served here.

The lounge follows Saudia’s usual pattern for T1: hot dishes on a buffet line, cold snacks in fridges, and coffee machines along the wall. Exact menu items rotate, but reviews point to standard regional mains over anything gourmet, and there’s no signature dish people rave about the way they might at a flagship European or Asian first lounge. If you care about specific items, eat something in Terminal 1’s public food court before heading in.

Regulars on FlyerTalk say they now check eligibility in advance through Saudia or partner airline channels before every RUH T1 departure, especially after the rule change mentioned in 2023 trip reports. That extra five minutes with the app or call center saves an awkward conversation at the lounge desk and a walk back toward the business lounge doors.

Practical tip: Screenshot your first-class boarding pass and any Saudia or SkyTeam elite card before you reach Terminal 1 security, so you have everything ready at the lounge desk if the system connection acts up.
