Local Art Display

Gate-side walk: Local Art Display sits past security at ROC

This is a free mini-gallery inside Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, after TSA and along the concourse toward the main gate area. No ticket needed beyond the one you already have, and you can loop through it in 5–10 minutes between boarding calls.

Pieces rotate periodically and usually highlight Rochester and upstate New York artists, so you’ll see local themes rather than generic travel posters. Expect paintings, photos, and sometimes mixed-media work, all in a quiet stretch of hallway rather than a busy shopfront.

There’s no staff desk, no sales counter, and no set “hours” beyond the terminal’s normal operating schedule of early-morning first departures to late-evening arrivals. You’re just walking past framed work and display panels on your way to gates, so it’s open whenever the secure side of ROC is open.

Prices don’t factor in here: you’re not paying admission, and most pieces are display-only rather than tagged for on-the-spot purchase. Occasionally you’ll see a small placard with an artist name or website URL if you want to follow up later from home.

Use it as a screen break: if you have 20–30 minutes before boarding at ROC, walk the concourse once, stop at the Local Art Display for a slow pass, and then double back to your gate so you stay within earshot of announcements.
