Subway line 20 people deep? Hudson is the panic button.
Hudson sits pre-security in the main ROC terminal, open 7am–8pm daily, and regulars treat it as backup, not a destination. Think convenience store and gift shop first, food second. You’ll find bottled water, soda, candy bars, chips, gum, magazines and Rochester postcards, but only a handful of cold sandwiches and snack packs in the cooler.
Prices land in the airport-premium range despite the $ price tier label: expect bottled water around a few dollars and basic chips and candy well above grocery-store levels. Several reviewers call out that the “meal” options are limited to pre-packed sandwiches and maybe a yogurt or two, so don’t show up at 6pm expecting a hot dinner.
ROC is small enough that your actual food competition is basically Dunkin’, Subway and this Hudson, all in the same general pre-security zone. Flyers on r/rochester say they grab real food in town, then use Hudson only to top up with water or a snack if Dunkin’ or Subway lines are insane. One Google Local Guide flat-out says Hudson “had some chips and cold sandwiches but nothing I’d call a real meal.”
Watch out for the limited selection if you have any dietary needs. Beyond standard candy, chips and a few generic refrigerated sandwiches, multiple reviewers mention almost no variety: not much fresh fruit, nothing hot, and very little beyond mainstream brands. If you’re picky or need vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-sensitive options, assume you’ll be piecing something together out of chips and maybe a basic salad pack, if stocked.
Practical move: pick up your actual meal before you reach Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, then use Hudson as your last stop for water and a small snack top-up about 20–30 minutes before your scheduled boarding time.
