Cold-case sandwiches at Main Terminal prices

Deli News sits in the Main terminal at Reno–Tahoe International and runs as a straightforward grab-and-go counter with a refrigerated case of pre-made sandwiches and salads. It’s a quieter pick than the Subway further down, mostly because hardly anyone talks about it online anymore, but the setup is simple: grab, pay, go.

Expect mid-range airport pricing: sandwiches and salads generally land in the $10–$15 bracket, with drinks pushing the total closer to $18–$20 if you add bottled water or a soda. You’re paying standard RNO markups for something closer to grocery-store deli quality than a made-to-order shop.

Food here is pre-assembled and held in the case, and a couple of older Google reviews call the sandwiches and salads “fine but nothing special,” noting the bread and lettuce can run a bit dry from sitting. If you’re picky about texture, skip anything with grilled chicken or turkey that looks like it’s been there a while and grab something simpler like ham-and-cheese or a basic green salad.

Service is usually quick because there’s no line build like at a made-to-order counter; you’re mostly waiting behind one or two people at most, even at typical morning and late-afternoon banks tied to Southwest and United departures. Figure 5–10 minutes from walking up to walking away, which helps if boarding starts in 20 minutes and you just need something you can eat at the gate.

Watch out for: dry edges on sandwiches that have clearly been in the case for a few hours, and limited fresh fruit or snack options compared with larger chains elsewhere in the Main terminal. If the lettuce looks limp through the plastic, pick another item.

Practical tip: grab a sandwich from Deli News, then buy your drink at a nearby newsstand with a better snack selection so you can round out the meal without paying twice for mediocre sides.
