Rideshare

Pickup with Uber at RIC usually takes under 10 minutes

Uber runs from the main terminal at Richmond International Airport (RIC), which is labeled as Concourse A/B but functions as a single Terminal 1. You request your ride through the app once you have your bags from baggage claim on the lower level. Most drivers reach the curb in 5–10 minutes, but late-night arrivals after 23:00 can stretch a bit longer while cars reposition from downtown or Short Pump.

RIC sits about 7 miles east of downtown Richmond, so a typical UberX run to the city center runs around 15–20 minutes in normal traffic. Pricing swings with surge, but many riders see off-peak UberX fares in the $20–$30 range to downtown and $35–$50 to the Short Pump area (about 23 miles). If you land during a big event at VCU or a concert at Virginia Credit Union LIVE!, check the fare estimate before walking out so sticker shock hits your screen, not the curb.

Pickup zones sit right outside the arrivals level doors near baggage claim, along the public curb in front of Terminal 1. Follow the “Ground Transportation” and “Ride App” signs once you clear the escalator or elevator from the concourse to baggage claim. In the app, make sure you drop the pin at the main terminal arrivals curb, not the cargo or GA side of the field, since the airport covers about 2,500 acres and drivers sometimes get odd GPS pings.

Vehicle choices at RIC usually include UberX, Comfort, and XL, with Black appearing at busier times. For a quick 15-minute hop to downtown with one bag, UberX works fine; families with 3–4 checked bags often do better with an XL, especially on the 25-mile run toward Williamsburg on I-64. Late-night options thin out after 01:00, so have a backup taxi number if your arrival banks after the last wave of mainline flights.

Practical tip: Call your driver through the app as soon as they enter the “arriving in 3–4 minutes” range and give a landmark like “Door 2 by baggage carousel 3” so they can pull to the right spot on the crowded curb the first time.
