Gate-side Grill sits in Concourse 1 past the main checkpoint
This is the primary full-service spot once you clear security in Terminal 1 at Richmond (RIC). Grill sits airside, so it works for all airlines using the main concourse. It’s a standard American sit-down setup: burgers, sandwiches, salads, wings, and a full bar. Expect airport pricing, with most mains landing in the $13–$18 range and beers around $8–$10.
Food is basic but serviceable. Burgers and chicken sandwiches usually hit the table in 15–20 minutes, which is fine if you’ve got at least a 60-minute buffer before boarding. Portions run decent by airport standards, so a single entrée often covers a full meal before a 2–3 hour flight. If you just need something quick, grab wings or fries and a drink at the bar instead of sitting at a table.
Bar setup is straightforward: domestic drafts, a few national craft labels, and standard rail liquor. A beer and a mid-range burger combo will usually land around $25 after tax, more if you add cocktails. TVs behind the bar stay tuned to ESPN or news, which helps kill time on a delay. Morning flights see more coffee-and-eggs orders, but this place really leans into lunch and early dinner crowds between 11:00 and 18:00.
Service pace depends heavily on departure banks. When several flights out of Concourse 1 push between 16:00 and 18:30, staff can get stretched and refills lag. On quieter mid-mornings, you can be in and out in under 35 minutes with a simple order. If your flight boards from a nearby gate in the teens, you’ll hear most boarding calls from the dining area, but don’t count on it if you’re at a far gate.
Tip: ask the server for your check as soon as your food arrives if your departure is within 45 minutes; payment can take longer than the kitchen during peak times.
