Terminal 2’s USO RDU Center sits landside near ticketing

The USO RDU Center sits in Terminal 2 before security, just off the main ticketing hall that serves airlines like Delta and American. Only active-duty military, reservists, Guard, retirees, and their families can enter, so have a valid military ID ready at the desk.

This is a classic USO setup: lounge-style seating, TVs, and usually snacks and coffee offered at no charge. You won’t find a bar or premium liquor list here, but you can generally count on basics like bottled water, chips, and simple heat-and-serve items stocked by volunteers.

Because it’s landside in Terminal 2, you need to build in security time afterward. For a midday Delta or United departure, figure 15–20 minutes to walk from the USO to the Terminal 2 security checkpoint and another 15–30 minutes to clear screening, depending on TSA PreCheck and crowd levels.

The space typically includes a few workstations with outlets and Wi‑Fi access, with speeds good enough for basic VPN and email during normal crowds. If you need to print boarding passes, the front desk often has a basic printer in the back office, but don’t rely on it for multi-page documents.

Families usually get the most value here. There’s often a small children’s play corner or at least floor space for kids to spread out, plus access to restrooms that see less traffic than the public Terminal 2 facilities across the hall. Baby-changing stations are available in the public restrooms right outside the center doors.

Hours can shift with volunteer staffing, but the USO RDU Center generally targets daytime coverage that lines up with the main bank of morning and afternoon departures out of Terminal 2. If you’re on a very early flight before 05:00 or a late arrival after 22:00, call RDU information or the USO North Carolina main line ahead of time to confirm it will actually be open.

Practical tip: check in at your airline counter in Terminal 2 first, then head back to the USO; that way you can stay in the lounge until about 45 minutes before boarding and walk straight to security with boarding pass in hand.
