Past RAP security, this is your only real sit-down spot
Post-Security Restaurant sits airside in the Main Terminal, just steps from Rapid City’s roughly seven departure gates. Once you clear the single TSA checkpoint, it’s directly in the small gate area, so you can see your boarding queue while you eat. It’s the only true full-service bar and restaurant after security, so plan on ending up here if you want more than chips from a kiosk.
The place opens one hour before the first scheduled departure and runs until the last flight leaves, which usually covers those early-morning hops and late-night returns. Pricing runs in the mid-range ($$), so expect typical sit-down airport tabs rather than fast-food prices. Seating is standard tables and bar stools, and you’re never more than a short walk from any gate in the building.
The menu leans local American: think burgers, sandwiches, and simple bar plates, often paired with South Dakota or regional beers on tap. One YouTube reviewer called the food “decent” and specifically liked being able to order a local beer instead of drinking whatever macro lager showed up on the plane. If you want a real meal before a 2–3 hour flight, this beats grabbing candy from a vending machine by Gate 4.
Because there are no other full-service options airside, it can feel busy before banked departures, especially in the 60–90 minutes before those morning and midday flights. On the flip side, slow stretches between departures mean you might get food out quicker than at a big-hub chain. Staff timings mirror the flight schedule, so if you’re on the last departure out of RAP, don’t assume you can sit down 10 minutes before boarding.
Practical tip: clear security at least 45 minutes before your flight, grab a table facing your exact gate, and order something you can finish in 20 minutes in case boarding gets pulled forward.
