Gate 9 Burger King is PWM’s grab-and-go safety net

You’ll find this Burger King across from Gate 9 in the Main Terminal, past security, so it works for most departures out of Portland. It’s a standard fast food setup: counter service, heat lamps, and the usual soda fountain. Seating spills into the shared gate area, so plan to camp at nearby seats instead of waiting for a dedicated dining room.

The Whopper is the headliner here, and at PWM prices it usually runs cheaper than most sit-down spots in the terminal. Expect basic American fast food: burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, onion rings, and breakfast sandwiches in the early hours. Combos stay in the budget “$” range, which matters at an airport that leans pricey on coffee and snacks.

Hours track the flight banks in the Main Terminal, with Burger King generally open from the first morning departures to the last evening flights near Gate 9. If you’re on a 5–6 a.m. departure, you’ll usually catch breakfast items like Croissan’wiches and hash browns; by mid-morning it flips to the full burger menu. Late-night operations depend on the day’s last outbound, so don’t count on a full menu after the final boarding calls.

Speed varies with the schedule. When multiple flights out of gates 7–11 board at once, lines can stack 10–15 people deep and add 10 minutes to your stop. Food quality is standard Burger King: Whopper and fries are consistent, but anything sitting too long under the lamps, like chicken nuggets near closing time, can be hit-or-miss.

Practical tip: Hit Burger King before you settle at a far gate; walking back from the end of the Main Terminal to Gate 9 can burn 8–10 extra minutes once boarding starts.
