Base fare starts around €3.30 from Pisa Airport T1
CO.TA.PI. is the main taxi cooperative serving Pisa International Airport (PSA) and runs from directly outside Terminal T1 arrivals, about a 1–2 minute walk from baggage claim. Taxis are metered and operate every day, roughly 24 hours, with higher night and holiday rates under Tuscan taxi rules. You pay the standard Pisa city tariff, starting with a fixed flag drop around €3.30 plus per‑kilometre charges to the city or station.
A typical ride with CO.TA.PI. from T1 to Pisa Centrale railway station takes about 10 minutes in light traffic and usually runs in the €10–15 range, depending on time of day and luggage. Cars line up at the official taxi rank just outside the terminal exit doors near arrivals, so there is no need to pre-book for normal daytime arrivals. Fares increase at night and on Sundays, in line with municipal rules posted inside the cab.
For hotel drops around Piazza dei Miracoli and the Leaning Tower area, expect about a 15–20 minute ride from T1 and a fare that often lands between €15 and €20. CO.TA.PI. drivers use taximeters that should be switched on as soon as you leave the airport, and surcharges for extra bags or more than four passengers are listed on a tariff sheet inside the car. Payment is typically in euros, and some vehicles accept cards, but that depends on the individual taxi.
CO.TA.PI. taxis are licensed, with a visible “TAXI” sign on the roof and a Pisa-issued license number displayed on the side of the vehicle and inside the cabin. The official rank at T1 is the safest pickup point; walking 50–100 metres away from the terminal to accept rides from unmarked cars is not recommended. The cooperative’s dispatch number is posted at the rank and printed in some airport information panels for phone bookings from the city back to PSA.
One practical tip: if your flight lands after 22:00 at T1, budget a few extra euros for the night surcharge and check before you get in if the driver accepts cards, so you can hit the ATM in the arrivals hall first if needed.
