Five-minute shuttle ride from Main Terminal to rental cars

The Car Rental Center Shuttle runs between the Main Terminal and the off-site consolidated rental car facility at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). The ride takes about 5 minutes each way and is the only way to reach rental counters like Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National from the terminal. Shuttles operate daily and track flight schedules, so service runs from early-morning departures through late-night arrivals.

Pickup on arrival is outside baggage claim on the lower level of the Main Terminal, near doors marked for “Rental Car Shuttle.” Signs for rental cars appear as soon as you exit the escalators down to baggage claim, and the shuttle stop is usually within a 2–3 minute walk of the carousels. The shuttle is free; you don’t need a reservation in hand to ride over to the rental center.

At the rental car facility, all major agencies sit in one complex with counters, parking, and returns in the same general area. Typical wait times run 10–20 minutes at peak times like Monday mornings and Sunday evenings, especially at national brands such as Hertz and Avis. Returns usually take under 10 minutes from pulling into the facility to boarding the shuttle back to the Main Terminal.

Plan for a total of 20–30 minutes from stepping off the plane to reaching your rental car, including the walk to baggage claim, the shuttle ride, and counter time. On the way back, budget 30–40 minutes from leaving the rental center to clearing security at the Main Terminal, especially during TSA peaks between 5:00–8:00 a.m. and 3:00–6:00 p.m. for heavy bank flights.

One practical tip: if you have a tight departure, return your rental at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight and 2 hours before an international departure from PIT, giving yourself room for the shuttle ride, check-in, and security at the Main Terminal.
