Footlongs without leaving security at PIE
Subway sits on the Main side of St. Petersburg Clearwater (PIE), so you can grab a sandwich without hunting through another terminal. There’s no posted schedule, but it generally tracks flight banks, opening earlier for morning departures and staying open into the late afternoon. If you land on one of the later Allegiant arrivals, expect it to be closed and plan a backup in town.
This is the same Subway menu you know: 6-inch and footlong subs built to order, plus chips and fountain drinks. You’ll see the usual lineup like Italian B.M.T., Meatball Marinara, Veggie Delite, and tuna, along with cookies by the register. Pricing runs in line with off-airport Subways, so a footlong combo usually lands around the low teens instead of the inflated $18–$20 you see at bigger airports.
Because PIE’s Main terminal is small, seating near Subway fills up around the busy morning bank between roughly 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. If every table is taken, grab your sandwich to go and eat at your gate; you’re rarely more than a 3–4 minute walk away. Lines back up quickly when two flights board at once, but they tend to clear in 10–15 minutes.
Ordering is straightforward: pick a 6-inch or footlong, choose bread, then add meats, cheeses, and toppings from the line. Toasting only takes about 60 seconds in the Subway oven, so it’s worth asking if your flight boards in more than 10 minutes. If you’re tight on time, skip the extra toasting and sauces so the sandwich travels better and doesn’t turn to mush before you reach your seat.
Tip: PIE’s security opens early for the first departures, so clear TSA first and hit Subway airside; it’s faster than doubling back landside to look for food.
