Holiday weekends see this $10/day Overflow Lot open up fast
The Overflow Parking Lot at St. Petersburg Clearwater (PIE) only comes online when the main, long-term, and economy areas are basically full. Daily rate sits at $10.00, matching the posted public long-term pricing. On peak days around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break, airport officials have already warned that drivers may be pushed here after circling the primary lots.
This is a public lot serving the Main Terminal, not a private or off-airport option. You’ll usually be routed in by staff or temporary signs once the regular long-term and economy spaces max out. The walk can be longer than from Key Lime or Strawberry, and in some setups you’ll rely on shuttle buses to get back to the terminal curb.
Shuttles during overflow use get stretched thin because they have to cover long-term, Key Lime, Strawberry, and the overflow area at the same time. During busy holiday mornings around 6:00–9:00 a.m., that can mean waiting through a full loop if a bus is already packed. Build at least a 20–30 minute buffer from parking to security when PIE is posting capacity alerts.
Complaints in local reporting mention drivers looping the access roads multiple times before finally being waved into overflow. Finding your car after a 10:00 p.m. arrival can also be trickier here than in the clearly marked fruit lots, especially if temporary signage has been moved or removed during the day.
Regulars say that when PIE publicly warns about “near capacity” parking, they skip airport parking entirely and grab a rideshare or a drop-off. If you still plan to park, check PIE’s parking page the night before, aim to arrive at least 90 minutes before departure, and snap a photo of your row so you’re not wandering the overflow area after dark.
