The Real Mother Goose

Gate-side in PDX’s main T concourse, The Real Mother Goose stacks Northwest-made art and gifts in one tight space.

This shop sits post-security in Terminal T, just off the central hall near the main food court, so you pass it walking between the security exit and many of the B/C/D gate corridors. It’s a long-running Portland gallery-style shop, focused on Pacific Northwest artists rather than generic airport souvenirs.

Expect shelves of handcrafts instead of t-shirts: blown glass ornaments, wood boxes, ceramic mugs, jewelry, and textiles by individual makers. Prices run higher than the newsstand next door: small cards around $5–7, earrings commonly $40–70, and larger art pieces that can push well past $100. It’s one of the few spots in PDX where you can buy actual gallery-quality work without leaving the terminal.

Most items are ready to travel: lots of flat-packed prints, small framed pieces that fit in a carry-on, and soft goods that fold into a backpack. Staff typically offer basic packing help with tissue and small boxes at the counter, which matters if you’re walking to the far D gates with a connection under 90 minutes and don’t want anything damaged in the overhead bin.

There’s no food, no seating, and no early-morning coffee here, so build this into a stroll, not a pit stop. Use it as a 10–15 minute walk-through while stretching your legs between TSA and your T-gate boarding area; if you see something you like, buy it on the first pass, since backtracking across the central hall can easily add another 5–10 minutes at a busy PDX midday bank.
