Bus

Single-ride fare is $2 on Palm Tran Route 40

This is the main public bus linking Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) with downtown West Palm Beach and points along Blue Heron Boulevard. Palm Tran Route 40 stops at the Ground Transportation area on level 1 of the Main terminal, outside baggage claim. The bus runs seven days a week and takes roughly 15–25 minutes to reach central West Palm Beach, depending on traffic and time of day.

A standard one-way fare on Route 40 is $2 for adults, paid on board with exact cash or with Palm Tran’s Go Glades or Paradise PASS options. Drivers do not make change, so bring small bills or coins. If you expect multiple rides the same day, check the current price of a 1‑day or 31‑day pass on the Palm Tran site before you fly; passes often work out cheaper than paying $2 each time.

Route 40 runs roughly every 30–40 minutes during daytime hours, with reduced frequency at night and on Sundays. Service typically starts in the early morning and continues into the evening, but late-night arrivals after about 10:00 pm should double-check the timetable. The bus connects the airport with key transfer points where you can switch to other Palm Tran routes that reach areas like Riviera Beach and along Blue Heron Boulevard.

The stop at PBI is signed as Palm Tran near other commercial shuttles and ride-shares on level 1 of the Main terminal. Look for a bus marked Route 40 in the front display, and confirm with the driver that it is heading toward West Palm Beach or the direction you want. Large carry-ons generally ride fine, but oversized luggage during the morning 7–9 am commuter window can feel tight when the bus fills up.

Practical tip: before you leave the baggage carousel, pull up the live Route 40 departure times on your phone so you know if you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes to walk out to the Ground Transportation stop or grab a quick snack first.
