Gate-side beers and burgers before Main Terminal departures
Here’s To The Heroes sits airside in the Main Terminal at Norfolk (ORF), just past security and a short walk from most airline gates. It runs longer hours than many ORF options, generally from early morning departures through the last evening banks, so it’s one of the few spots where you can still grab a hot meal after 7 p.m.
The menu leans pub-style: burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, fries, and bar snacks, all in the $10–$18 range before tax and tip. Portions skew larger than the grab-and-go stands near the concourses, so this works better if you’ve got a 45–60 minute window before boarding. Expect standard domestic bottles, a couple of draft beers, and basic well drinks rather than a big cocktail program.
Service runs table-style at high-tops and bar seats, and checks typically close fast enough for a 45-minute layover, but build more cushion if you’re ordering a burger or wings fresh from the grill. There are a few TVs tuned to ESPN or similar, which helps pass a long delay on regional flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, or DC. Power outlets are limited compared with seats at the nearby gates, so charge up beforehand.
Food quality sits in the middle of the airport curve: better than packaged sandwiches by the Hudson News stands in the Main Terminal, not a destination in its own right. Stick to straightforward items like a cheeseburger, grilled chicken sandwich, or fries; they hold up better than anything trying to be “signature.” Draft beer prices track typical airport markups, often around $9–$11 a pour.
Practical tip: if your departure boards from one of the farther gates at ORF, ask your server for the check as soon as the food hits the table so you can walk the 5–10 minutes back to boarding without clock-watching at the bar.
