Burger King

Whopper and fries before TSA

This Burger King sits pre-security in the Main terminal at Norfolk (ORF), just off the main ticketing hall, so it works for both departures and airport pickups. Lines spike around the 6:00–8:00 a.m. bank and again from about 4:30–6:30 p.m., when the evening departures roll. If you’re tight on time, you want at least 20 minutes from joining the queue to walking away with a bag.

Hours usually run from around 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., synced to the first and last wave of flights, but late-night delays after 9:00 p.m. can leave you staring at a closed gate. Breakfast hits the board at opening and typically flips to the regular menu by 10:30 a.m. Plan around that if you care whether you get an Egg & Cheese Croissan’wich or a Whopper.

Prices run a bit above street level: expect around $6–$7 for a basic sandwich, $10–$13 for a combo with fries and a drink, and $3–$4 for coffee or a fountain soda. It’s still one of the cheaper hot-food options in the Main terminal, especially if you skip add-ons and stick to the value menu items.

Food is standard BK franchise quality: the Whopper and Original Chicken Sandwich are the safest bets, fries are hit-or-miss depending on how recently a batch came out of the fryer, and onion rings skew salty. If the line is short, asking for “fresh fries” usually adds about 3–4 minutes but pays off in heat and texture.

Seating is limited to a small cluster of tables within sight of the counter, and those fill quickly during the morning rush when three or four departures board at once. One practical tip: if your boarding pass is already on your phone, grab your food to go and eat at the gate near your exact boarding door to keep eyes on the screen and line.
