Manchu Wok

5

Hot-food fallback for long-haul flyers in T5

Gate area crowds in Terminal 5 make Manchu Wok a straightforward option when you just need a box of hot food before a 9+ hour flight. It sits post-security in ORD’s international terminal, so you can grab a quick Asian-American combo and still keep an eye on boarding times for carriers like BA, QR, or LX.

Manchu Wok runs a typical steam-table setup: pick one or two mains with fried rice or noodles, paid by combo rather than by weight. Expect orange chicken, beef and broccoli, fried rice, and lo mein-style noodles in metal pans that turn over fastest during the evening departure bank from roughly 16:00–21:00. Earlier in the day, around 11:00–14:00, you’ll still see food out, but turnover is slower.

Pricing sits in the standard airport fast-food range, roughly in line with other Terminal 5 chains; think around $12–$18 for a full combo with a drink. Portions run large enough to cover a skipped airplane meal on routes like ORD–LHR or ORD–DOH. If you care about freshness, ask which pan was refilled most recently and go for those mains plus steamed rice instead of older-looking fried rice.

Seating in T5 is limited near some gates, so many people take their Manchu Wok tray back toward their actual gate area, especially on crowded evenings before flights such as LX7 or QR726. Plan 10–15 minutes from joining the line to walking away with food during the evening rush; off-peak, it can be closer to 5 minutes.

Tip: If your international flight from Terminal 5 boards 45 minutes before departure, target ordering from Manchu Wok about 75 minutes before scheduled takeoff to avoid eating your orange chicken standing in the boarding scrum.
