Billy Goat Tavern

Billy Goat Tavern gives ORD a second taste of Chicago icons

Terminal 3 gets its own Billy Goat Tavern, so you don’t have to trek to the main city locations for a “cheezborger” and a beer. It sits post-security in T3, handy if you’re flying American out of gates H or K and want something with actual Chicago history behind the sign.

Menu is exactly what you expect: cheeseburgers, double cheeseburgers, simple breakfast plates, and basic bar snacks, all in the roughly $8–$15 range for mains. Draft beer usually runs around typical airport pricing, think $9–$12 a pint. This is griddle food: smash-style patties, onions, pickles, plus quick counter service that fits a 45–60 minute connection.

Atmosphere leans more sports bar than tourist shrine, with TVs on local Chicago teams and bar seating lining the counter. You order at the counter, grab your tray, and either sit at the bar or snag one of the small tables. It feels a little worn around the edges, but that’s also the point, especially compared with the slick chains sprinkled around Terminal 3.

If you’re hungry, skip the single and go straight to a double cheeseburger; portion size justifies the extra couple of dollars. Fries are fine but salty, so pair them with water or a soft drink instead of a second beer if you’re about to sit on a 3-hour American flight to the West Coast. Breakfast sandwiches work as a 10-minute grab-and-go before boarding from gates H10–H18.

Best move: check your gate in T3, then walk to Billy Goat before you settle at a crowded bar near H1 or K1. Order and eat at the counter, then carry a to-go drink back to your gate so you keep an eye on any last-minute American gate changes.
