Lot D

Short-term hourly

Older maps still label “Lot D,” but you probably won’t use it

Lot D shows up on some Google Maps layers for Chicago O’Hare (ORD), often alongside the main garage and Economy F/G/H, but recent reviews and photos are basically nonexistent after 2020. That usually means a lot has been repurposed, closed to the public, or kept only for special events and overflow. Official FlyChicago parking pages in 2024 list the Main Garage (short-term hourly) and Economy lots clearly, but Lot D barely appears, which is your clue that it’s not part of the regular rotation anymore.

Historically, Lot D was referenced as short-term or special-use parking close to the terminal complex serving Terminals 1, 2, and 3, while Economy F, G, and H sat further out by Bessie Coleman Drive. Older discussions mention Lot D as extra capacity when the garage filled up during peak holidays or big events. Now, frequent ORD drivers on forums and Google reviews talk almost exclusively about the Main Garage hourly parking for terminal drops (levels 1–3) and Economy lots with the 24/7 shuttle, but they don’t mention Lot D at all.

Because Lot D’s status is unclear and not highlighted on the 2024 official parking map, betting on it for short-term hourly parking is risky if you have a tight schedule or a Terminal 5 international departure. Short-term needs are better covered by the Main Garage in front of Terminals 1, 2, and 3, with posted hourly rates on the flychicago.com parking page, or by using rideshare if you’re just doing a quick pick-up. If you see a “Lot D” sign on airport roadways, assume it may be restricted or event-only unless an attendant or current ORD signage says otherwise.

Practical tip: treat Lot D as legacy labeling: follow current flychicago.com maps and in-terminal signs for the Main Garage hourly and Economy F/G/H, and only follow “Lot D” wayfinding if an ORD police officer or parking staff member explicitly directs you there that day.
