Gate B17 is your landmark for the Lufthansa Senator Lounge.
This lounge sits in Terminal 1, Concourse B, a short walk from gates B16–B18, and it’s the quiet fallback many Star Golds use instead of the nearby United Clubs. Access typically goes to Lufthansa Senator status holders, Star Alliance Gold on same-day *A flights from T1, and premium-cabin passengers on airlines like Lufthansa, Austrian, and LOT.
Hours usually track the evening bank of Europe flights, roughly mid-afternoon to just before the last Lufthansa departure around 9:00 pm, so don’t count on it for a 9:00 am FRA run. It’s post-security in T1, which means you can clear TSA at United’s checkpoints and walk over in under 10 minutes if your gate is in B.
The space is compact by US standards, with maybe 80–90 seats across armchairs, barstools, and some two-top tables, so it feels very much like an outstation lounge rather than a big hub flagship. Power outlets are scattered but not at every seat; if your laptop battery is low, grab a spot near the walls along the windows facing the B concourse.
Food is light: think soup, one or two hot chafing dishes, cold cuts, cheese, and a few salads, on par with a decent European contract lounge but below a full Polaris buffet. Multiple reviews call out the limited hot options, especially on days with both LH and LOT departures, so eat a real meal in T1 first if you’re hungry.
Drinks skew European: bottled German beers, a couple of red and white wines, and standard spirits on the self-serve counter near the center of the room. Coffee comes from an automatic machine with espresso and cappuccino buttons, and there’s a fridge with soft drinks and sparkling water; regulars grab a beer and a small plate of cheese, then head to boarding 30–40 minutes before scheduled departure.
Peak crowding hits about 60–90 minutes before the evening Lufthansa flight to FRA, often around 3:30–5:30 pm or again before a later MUC, and that’s when people mention it feels cramped and underwhelming. Outside those banks, you can usually find a seat without circling more than once.
Restrooms sit inside the lounge near the entrance desk, which saves a trip back into the concourse, but there are no showers at this ORD outpost. Wi‑Fi uses the airport network or a posted SSID on a small sign near reception, and speeds are generally fine for email and a quick 1080p stream.
Practical tip: Check in at United in Terminal 1, grab any gate changes from the app, then walk to the Senator Lounge near B17 for a quiet drink and snack, but have a backup plan in case it’s slammed before the FRA bank.
