Gate-side in Terminal 1, La Pausa handles proper sit-down meals

Right in Terminal 1 after security, La Pausa Restaurant and self service is one of the few spots at OPO where you can actually sit with cutlery instead of balancing a sandwich at the gate. It sits on the main departures level, so you can keep an eye on Schengen gate screens while you eat.

The setup splits in two: a staffed restaurant section and a self-service line with trays and a hot counter. Prices run higher than downtown Porto, as expected for an airport: think around €10–€14 for a hot main, €3–€4 for a pastry, and €2–€3 for coffee or soft drinks. You pay at the counter, then find your own table.

Food leans generic European cafeteria: grilled meats with rice or fries, pasta dishes, mixed salads, and a few sweets. If you want something filling before a 3+ hour flight, the hot plate specials usually give the best value compared to the grab-and-go sandwiches in other Terminal 1 cafés. Portions are decent by airport standards, easily enough for one hungry adult.

Service pace lines up with a normal 45–60 minute layover. You queue, choose, pay, and sit; nothing fancy, but it moves faster than a full menu restaurant with table service. It works fine if boarding starts in 30–40 minutes and your gate is within a 5-minute walk in the same terminal.

Tip: check the overhead flight boards near La Pausa before you sit down so you’re not sprinting across Terminal 1 with a half-finished plate. If your flight leaves from a remote stand with bus boarding, finish eating at least 25 minutes before departure; bus gates at OPO sometimes close earlier than jet bridge gates.
