Rideshare

Solo women sometimes prebook Shebah weeks out for 5 a.m. flights.

Shebah runs as a women-only rideshare at Gold Coast Airport, picking up from the same T1 rideshare zone used by Uber and Ola, just outside arrivals. You book through the Shebah app (iOS/Android), not via the airport. Fares use distance and time like other rideshares; a typical OOL to Surfers Paradise trip sits in the AUD $50–$70 band depending on traffic.

All Shebah drivers are female, and the service markets itself to women and children, which is why it gets mentioned in solo women’s travel groups for OOL. The catch: Gold Coast coverage is patchy compared with Uber, and that shows up quickly on early-morning and late-night airport runs. One Facebook group thread, echoed on r/australia, specifically calls out “great in theory, light on drivers” for the GC.

Driver supply around the Gold Coast leans heavily on local routines. Posters say they see the best Shebah availability around school pickup time, roughly 2:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m., and into the early evening up to about 7:00 p.m. After 9:00 p.m., it becomes a coin toss for airport trips, and midnight arrivals out of Sydney or Melbourne are often a hard no.

For airport pickups, you set T1 as the location and meet at the signed rideshare area on the forecourt, about a 2–3 minute walk from the baggage carousels. The app shows the car’s registration, driver name, and ETA in minutes. Unlike regular taxis at OOL, Shebah can’t be hailed from the rank; you must request through the app once you have a signal in the terminal.

Regulars who care about Shebah’s women-only setup usually create two plans for a 6:00 a.m. departure: they schedule a Shebah the night before and also keep Uber or a local cab number ready if no driver accepts by about 30–40 minutes before pickup time. Some report prebooked Shebah rides being reassigned or cancelled when no one on the Gold Coast network taps “accept.”

Practical tip: If you land after 10:00 p.m. into OOL, open the Shebah app as you walk off the aircraft; if you do not see any nearby drivers within 5–10 minutes, switch to Uber, Ola, or a standard taxi so you are not stuck at T1 after the last scheduled buses thin out.
