The catch is car supply: Reddit threads flag noticeably fewer DiDi drivers on the Gold Coast than Uber, with gaps most obvious before 6:00 and after 22:00. That shows up as longer ETAs in the app, where you might see Uber at 4 minutes and DiDi at 11 for the same OOL–Broadbeach trip.

Pickup flow is simple. After you exit T1 arrivals, follow the “Rideshare” signs for about 150–200 metres to the dedicated bay used by Uber, DiDi and Ola. Because DiDi uses the same physical zone as Uber, you don’t have to learn two different meeting points, and drivers expect passengers to wait at the numbered posts along the curb.

Regulars play the price game: they open Uber, DiDi and Ola together, compare ETAs and fares for their route, then cancel the slower or more expensive options before leaving baggage claim. A lot of locals say this trick can shave AU$3–$8 off a single OOL–Southport run, especially outside peak school holiday traffic.

Watch out for late-night gaps. r/GoldCoast comments mention DiDi waits stretching beyond 15 minutes after 23:00 when only one or two cars sit online, while Uber might still quote 5–7 minutes. If you land on a 00:30 Jetstar arrival, check ETAs before you commit, because surge on Uber sometimes flips the equation and makes DiDi the only sensible price.
