Day pass from $65 gets you into Gold Coast’s main full-service lounge

The Virgin Australia Lounge in T1 sits above the concourse opposite Gates 1 and 2, serving both domestic and international departures from the same space. It usually opens from 60 minutes before the first Virgin departure until the last boarding call, so if a Virgin flight is running, the lounge is open. Entry works via Virgin Australia status or business class, Priority Pass and single-use or $65 paid day passes, which makes this the easiest “proper” lounge to access at OOL.

Check in at the ground-floor desk by Gate 18 signage, then head up via stairs or lift to the main level. Regulars like the self-service access kiosks at reception, which let Velocity members scan themselves in during peak morning and late-afternoon banks. The room itself runs along the windows with runway and hinterland views; reviews point out “lots of white” surfaces broken up with Virgin’s purple seating, and opinions on the look are split.

Food runs buffet-style along a central counter, with Point Hacks calling it “respectable” for a regional lounge at an airport the size of Gold Coast. Expect typical Virgin Australia lounge patterns: light breakfast options early, then simple salads, soups or hot bites later in the day, not a full restaurant. One FlyerTalk poster joked that if this catering beats the Air New Zealand AKL international lounge, that’s not great news for Auckland, which gives you a sense of the relative standard.

Barista-made coffee pours all day from opening, and several reviews specifically highlight the quality compared with buying a cup down in T1. Alcohol service starts at 12:00, so before midday you’re on soft drinks, juice, tea and coffee only. If you want a glass of wine or beer before a 10:30 departure to Sydney or Melbourne, you’ll need to buy it in the terminal instead.

Seating mixes low armchairs, some high stools and laptop benches with power points dotted along the windows. Free Wi‑Fi is available, with the password printed on signs around the room, so there’s no need to line up at the desk for access. Noise levels track Virgin’s banks into and out of OOL: quieter mid-morning and mid-afternoon, busier in the 06:00–09:00 and evening waves.

There is one shower suite on site, and pre‑COVID it came stocked with separate shampoo, conditioner and body wash according to Executive Traveller. At present, reports say the shower remains closed even though you can still see the room, so don’t bank on freshening up after a surf or a long drive. Velocity Platinum members can, however, use “on arrival” access for up to 60 minutes post‑landing, useful for a coffee and snack before heading up the M1.

Watch the signage at ground level near Gates 1 and 2 so you don’t walk past the reception desk and end up at Gate 18 before realising the lounge is upstairs.
