Lot A

Economy surface

During past construction, surface lots at OKC meant a longer walk.

Lot A is OKC’s basic economy surface lot serving the Main terminal, used heavily during construction and overflow periods when closer options filled up. It sits in the main parking complex in front of Will Rogers World Airport, with a noticeable walk compared with the garage directly in front of the terminal doors. Think outdoor rows, standard striping, and a hike that feels longer if you land late at night or in bad weather.

Rates in economy surface parking at OKC typically undercut the attached garage by several dollars per day, and Lot A follows that pattern as one of the cheaper ways to leave a car for 2–7 days. You trade price for proximity: it’s fine for a long weekend or weeklong trip, less fun for a 04:30 departure with kids and bags. Payment works like the other airport-run lots, with ticketed entry and pay-on-exit machines at the drive-out booths.

Historically, construction around the terminal pushed more traffic into surface lots like Lot A and sometimes shifted pedestrian routes, so the path that used to be a quick cut across the drive lanes became a longer marked walk. Reviews from that period mention “the parking lot” being a giant mess and turning what felt like a short step-outside-and-go walk into a trek across temporary barriers. If you last parked here pre-construction, budget extra time; the muscle memory shortcut may be gone.

Layout tweaks over the years left some travelers grumbling about confusing temporary lanes and changed crosswalks, with at least one FlyerTalk regular calling the rebuilt walk from car to terminal a “trek through construction” compared with the pre-work setup. Signage often lags behind layout changes, so follow current arrows and painted crosswalks rather than old habits or outdated Google satellite views. Tip: screenshot the row marker on your phone before you wheel away; in a big, flat surface field like Lot A, that one little sign saves a 10-minute hunt when you land back at OKC.
