Gate-side newsstand in Terminal 2

Just past security in Terminal 2, SF Chronicle News is the classic airport grab-and-go stop: magazines, drinks, basic snacks, and last-minute travel extras right on the concourse. You’ll walk right by it on the way to the Southwest gates, so it’s an easy stop without adding steps to your gate walk.

Expect standard airport pricing: bottled water runs around $4–$5, chips and candy sit in the $3–$6 range, and printed newspapers or magazines can hit $7–$15. It’s still cheaper than buying a full meal if you just want something to hold you over on a 60–90 minute hop down the West Coast.

Hours roughly track the Terminal 2 bank of departures, with doors open from early morning (around the first 5–6 a.m. flights) through the last evening departures. If you’re on a late-night departure after 9 p.m., don’t assume it’s open; grab water and snacks earlier in the evening when traffic is heavier.

Items worth grabbing here: a physical newspaper for $3–$5 if you don’t want to burn phone battery, a basic phone cable or charger if yours died, and quick breakfast snacks like protein bars for early departures. Skip bulky souvenirs; Oakland and San Francisco tourist gear is limited, and prices run higher than what you’ll find in the city.

Tip: If your boarding pass shows a Southwest flight from Terminal 2, stop at SF Chronicle News right after security; lines here are shorter than at the gate-adjacent snack kiosks 10–15 minutes before boarding.
