Amex Platinum and Centurion walk in free here at Gate 9
This is the Escape Lounge – The Centurion Studio Partner in Terminal 1, sitting between Gates 8 and 8A, directly across from Gate 9. It runs 04:00–20:00 on Mon, Tue, Sat, Sun and 04:00–21:00 on Wed, Thu, Fri, so late-night departures out of OAK usually miss it. Think small-to-medium Escape Lounge layout with Centurion branding, not a full-size Amex Centurion build.
Entry is straightforward: Amex Platinum and Centurion cardholders get complimentary access as part of the Global Lounge Collection, and Delta SkyMiles Reserve cardmembers get in free when flying a Delta-marketed flight the same day. Non-complimentary guests pay from about $45 if pre-booked online or $60 walk-up at the desk. It is airside in Terminal 1 only, so Terminal 2 flyers can’t realistically use it unless they re-clear security.
Front desk staff here have a reputation for being friendly, but several FlyerTalk reports mention that agents sometimes insist on a physical Amex Platinum or Centurion card, not just a phone wallet. You also need a same-day boarding pass out of OAK. Check-in tends to be quick early in the morning around 04:30–06:00, with more of a line closer to the 17:00–19:00 departure bank.
The space follows standard Escape Lounge rules: there are no showers, and restrooms sit across the concourse near Gate 9. Seating skews toward two-top tables and bar-height counters, with power outlets along the window-side rows. Once it fills up, it feels tight compared with bigger lounges at SFO, and regulars complain about this most during busy Friday evenings until close at 21:00.
Food is the usual Escape setup: a small hot buffet plus cold plates that cycle through the day, with better options in the mid-morning 09:00–11:00 and pre-dinner 16:00–18:00 windows. Coffee, soft drinks, and standard well drinks come included; premium spirits and some upgraded wines carry a surcharge that shows clearly on the printed bar menu. If you are used to full Centurion Lounges, expectations should sit closer to a contract lounge.
Regular Amex flyers at OAK route themselves through Terminal 1 just to sit here instead of the public gate area, especially on days with 1–2 hour gaps between flights. They use complimentary access for themselves, then stack a Delta Reserve entry for a spouse or colleague when traveling on a Delta-marketed itinerary. Many treat this as their default pre-flight stop for any OAK–LAX or OAK–SEA run.
Practical tip: aim to arrive by about 90 minutes before departure on Wed–Fri, flash a physical Amex Platinum or Centurion at the desk, and grab a seat near the windows closest to Gate 8 for the best shot at an outlet.
