Gate-side kid break in T1: the Play area
The Play area sits airside in Terminal T1, so you’re past security and close to most Schengen gates. It’s a small corner rather than a full playground, but it’s enough space for kids to burn energy before boarding. Expect a few climbing or slide elements and some soft seating, not an indoor theme park. If you’re boarding from a remote stand, factor in 10 extra minutes to walk back to your gate from here.
Access is free and open during regular terminal hours, roughly from first departures around 04:00 until the last evening flights after 22:00. You don’t need to register or scan a boarding pass at the entrance. There’s no staff assigned specifically to the area, so supervision is entirely on parents. It’s a good fallback if your flight from T1 is delayed by 30–60 minutes and the kids are climbing the walls.
There are no dedicated toilets inside the Play area, but standard T1 restrooms sit within a short walk, usually less than 50 meters away in the same concourse. You won’t find food counters inside the space either; grab drinks or snacks from the nearest café in T1 beforehand. Power outlets are hit-or-miss, so don’t count on charging tablets while the kids run around.
Bring socks for the kids and aim to leave the Play area at least 20 minutes before boarding time printed on your T1 gate screen, especially if you’re not parked at a nearby jetbridge.
