20-minute run from T1 to downtown Nantes
The Airport Shuttle bus runs between Nantes Atlantique Airport T1 and the city center in about 20 minutes when traffic cooperates. It drops you at Gare SNCF Sud, the south side of Nantes train station, which is the main hub for onward trains and trams. The shuttle stop at the airport sits just outside T1 arrivals, a short walk straight out of the terminal doors.
The shuttle typically runs from roughly 05:30 to 23:00, timed around first and last flights. Buses usually leave every 20 to 30 minutes in daytime, with gaps sometimes stretching a bit in the early morning and late evening. Always check the current timetable for your specific day, since weekend or holiday schedules can change the spacing between departures.
A single adult ticket usually costs around €10 one way, and you can buy it directly from the driver in cash or card on most vehicles. Kids, students, or local transport pass holders sometimes get reduced fares, but those discounts depend on the current TAN (local transit) rules. Keep the paper ticket until you step off at Gare SNCF Sud in case there’s a quick inspection onboard.
The bus is standard city-coach style with limited overhead racks, so a typical small suitcase plus backpack is fine, but four big checked bags get awkward. The ride from T1 to Gare SNCF Sud runs along the N844 and then into central Nantes, and traffic on weekday late afternoons (around 17:00–19:00) can push that 20-minute ride closer to 30 minutes. Build a buffer if you have a TGV to catch from Nantes station.
How to ride the Airport Shuttle step by step
- 1. Exit T1 arrivals straight ahead for about 100 meters to the signed “Navette Aéroport” stop.
- 2. Check the posted timetable for the next departure time and note the 20–30 minute interval.
- 3. Board through the front door and buy a ticket from the driver (about €10 one way).
- 4. Validate your ticket in the onboard machine right after paying and keep it handy.
- 5. Store your suitcase near your seat or in the small luggage area by the door if available.
- 6. Ride for roughly 20 minutes and watch for the “Gare SNCF Sud” announcement on the interior display.
- 7. Get off at Gare SNCF Sud, then follow signs about 150–200 meters to the main station hall and tram stops.
Last tip: on late arrivals after 22:00, confirm the day’s final shuttle time before your trip so you know if you need a fallback taxi plan from T1.
