T1 to T3 Shuttle Bus

Shuttle

Shuttle Approx. 14 min

Every 10 minutes, a free shuttle links T1 and T3

The T1 to T3 Shuttle Bus runs about every 10 minutes and takes roughly 14 minutes end to end, so it beats walking if you’re tired, jet-lagged, or carrying a 23 kg checked bag. The service is free, runs between Narita’s T1 and T3, and is clearly marked as an inter-terminal shuttle at both stops.

Stops sit outside the terminal buildings, so you’re curbside, not post-security, when you board the T1 to T3 Shuttle Bus. At T1, follow signs for the inter-terminal shuttle near the arrival level bus stands; at T3, the stop is near the main entrance used by LCCs like Jetstar Japan and Peach. Factor in a 3–5 minute walk from some gates in T1 or T3 to reach the curb.

Journey time runs about 14 minutes, but you can easily lose 25–30 minutes total once you add the 10-minute headway plus walking and a short wait in line. If you have a tight connection, treat this like any other landside transfer at Narita and keep at least 60–75 minutes between flights if you need to move from T1 to T3 and clear security again.

Buses run on standard low-floor airport coaches with standing room and grab rails, but during midday bank times they can feel packed for the full 14-minute ride. If you’re hauling two 23 kg bags or a 158 cm oversize suitcase, aim for off-peak times outside the 10:00–14:00 wave of departures and arrivals, or wait for the next bus if the first looks jammed.

There’s no need to show a ticket or boarding pass for the T1 to T3 Shuttle Bus, and you don’t tap an IC card like Suica or PASMO to ride. Just queue at the marked T1/T3 stand, let arriving passengers step off, then board and stow hand luggage in the space near the center door; keep valuables on you, not on the floor, for the 14-minute hop.

One practical tip: if your T3 flight check-in closes 40 minutes before departure, aim to stand at the T1 shuttle stop at least 90 minutes before your scheduled takeoff so the 10-minute frequency and 14-minute ride don’t turn into a missed cut-off at Narita.

Watch out for
  • Not checking the bus schedule for the correct timing.
