3–14 minutes to hop between Narita terminals
The Inter-terminal Shuttle Bus at Narita International Airport runs between T1, T2, and T3 in about 3–14 minutes, so tight connections stay realistic. Buses are free, run on fixed routes linking all three terminals, and save you from walking the long outdoor paths, especially in bad weather.
Shuttles run roughly every 5–10 minutes throughout the day, so you usually spend more time walking to the stop than waiting. Stops are clearly marked outside arrivals at T1, T2, and T3, with route maps and estimated ride times posted at each stand to help you pick the right bus.
Use the bus if you land in T1 and need to catch a low-cost carrier in T3, or if your international flight arrives in T2 and your onward flight leaves from T1. Typical ride time between adjacent terminals is about 5–10 minutes, and up to around 14 minutes end-to-end when traffic is slow around the terminal loop.
The Inter-terminal Shuttle Bus runs landside, so you board it after clearing immigration and customs on arrival, or before security if you’re switching terminals for check-in. That matters if you’re connecting from an international flight and changing airlines: budget at least 45–60 minutes total for arrival formalities plus the shuttle ride between terminals.
- Step 1: After exiting customs or arrivals in T1, T2, or T3, follow the signs for “Free Shuttle Bus” or “Inter-terminal bus.”
- Step 2: Go outside to the designated stop in front of your terminal; look for signs listing T1 / T2 / T3 and confirm the bus direction.
- Step 3: Join the marked queue and wait for the next shuttle, which should arrive in about 5–10 minutes.
- Step 4: Board through the front or middle door, keep your smaller bags with you, and move toward the back if the bus is filling up.
- Step 5: Watch the onboard signs or listen for announcements, then get off at your target terminal and follow signs to Departures or Arrivals as needed.
One tip: if your connection involves changing terminals, add at least 20 minutes buffer for walking to the stop, waiting for the bus, and getting from the drop-off point to your new check-in or security area.
