Keisei train

Regular trains cost about half the Skyliner fare

The Keisei Main Line Limited Express runs from Narita Airport to central Tokyo for roughly ¥1,050–¥1,200 one way, about half the Keisei Skyliner price. Trains depart from stations at T1 (Narita Airport Station) and T2/T3 (Airport Terminal 2·3 Station), and they stop at main hubs like Keisei Ueno and Nippori, plus several suburban stations along the way.

From Narita to Keisei Ueno, the Limited Express usually takes about 75–90 minutes, depending on the time of day and stops. Trains typically run every 20 minutes from early morning into late evening, so you rarely wait long on the platform. All cars are standard class with no seat reservations, so you just tap in with an IC card (like Suica or PASMO) or buy a paper ticket from the Keisei machines near the ticket gates.

On board, car layouts are closer to a regular commuter train than the Skyliner, with longitudinal seating in many cars and a bit more crowding during Tokyo rush hours around 7:30–9:00 and 17:00–19:00. Luggage racks above the seats fit smaller carry-ons, while the door areas can handle larger suitcases if you keep them out of the way. There’s no dedicated luggage car and no onboard toilets, so use the station restrooms at NRT before boarding.

Fares from Narita Airport Station to Nippori usually land just over ¥1,000 if you use an IC card, and tickets to intermediate stops like Aoto or Funabashi price out slightly cheaper. You pay the same for the Limited Express as for slower local Keisei services; there’s no extra express surcharge. Kids aged 6–11 pay about half the adult fare, and children under 6 ride free if they don’t occupy a separate seat.

At NRT, look for the blue Keisei signs in the basement level below arrivals in T1 and T2, then follow the arrows to the Keisei ticket machines and gates; JR tickets are in the same general area but under green branding. Double-check the overhead platform signs for “Limited Express” and “for Ueno / Nippori” before boarding, since some Keisei trains terminate earlier. For late flights landing after 21:00, confirm the last Limited Express time that reaches your station so you’re not stuck changing to a slower local train en route.

One practical tip: if you’re staying near a JR Yamanote Line station like Shinjuku or Shibuya, aim for Nippori Station, then transfer to JR; the Keisei–JR transfer at Nippori is short, with clear signs and IC card gates right at the connection.
