Reserved seats from NRT to Tokyo Station in about 60–90 minutes
JR Bus runs highway buses from Narita T1, T2, and T3 to Tokyo Station with all-reserved seating, so you’re guaranteed a seat even in rush hours. Typical travel time into central Tokyo runs 60–90 minutes depending on traffic on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway. Buses run throughout the day, and most services stop at all three terminals directly outside the arrival levels, so you don’t have to drag bags onto the train platforms.
One-way fares on the JR Bus Narita–Tokyo line usually sit around ¥1,300–¥1,500 for adults, which undercuts many hotel limos and taxis by a huge margin. You pay at the JR Bus counter or ticket machine in each terminal: look for the JR Bus Kanto signs near the central arrivals area in T1 and T2, and near the bus ticket counters at T3. Keep the small ticket stub; staff often check it again when you get off near Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit.
Most JR highway buses to Tokyo Station run roughly every 20–40 minutes during daytime, so you rarely wait a full half hour once you’ve cleared arrivals. At T1 and T2, the JR buses depart from specific numbered bus stops in front of the terminal; digital boards show departure times and destinations in both Japanese and English. Late-night and early-morning options thin out, so check the last departure time if your flight lands after 21:00.
Luggage goes under the bus in the belly compartment, and drivers usually tag big suitcases with a paper stub showing the stop name, such as “Tokyo Station.” Inside, seats are 2–2 across with more legroom than most local trains, plus individual reclining seats and overhead racks for smaller bags or backpacks under about 10 kg. There’s air-conditioning and reading lights, but no toilets on some daytime services, so hit the restroom inside the terminal before boarding at T1, T2, or T3.
At Tokyo Station, JR buses generally drop off near the Yaesu side, within about a 5–10 minute walk of multiple JR lines and the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. If you’re continuing by shinkansen, budget at least 20 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the Tokaido or Tohoku Shinkansen gates. Last tip: buy a bottle of water or tea from a terminal vending machine for around ¥120 before boarding; there’s no food service on the bus and traffic jams on the way in from Narita are common in the evening.
