Kineya Mugimaru

T1 0

Hot udon and soba in T1 before a long-haul

Kineya Mugimaru in Narita Terminal 1 sits landside on the public side of the building, so it works both for departures and airport meetups. It’s a fast-service noodle shop: you grab a tray, order at the counter, pay, then sit. Most bowls run in the ¥600–¥1,000 range, which is cheap by airport standards and friendlier on the wallet than many restaurants upstairs.

The menu focuses on udon and soba in both hot and cold styles, plus tempura and onigiri. Expect standards like kitsune udon with sweet fried tofu, curry udon around ¥800, and zaru soba for roughly the same. You can tack on shrimp or vegetable tempura for a couple hundred yen extra, and grab a beer if you want something stronger than the self-serve tea and water.

Service runs on typical terminal hours, roughly 10:00–21:00, but check the current day’s listing if you’re on a very early or very late flight from T1. Turnover is quick: most people finish a bowl in 15–20 minutes, so even a line of 8–10 customers usually moves fast. It’s a sit-down meal you can fit into a one-hour pre-check-in window without stress.

Portions are medium-sized, so a single bowl and one tempura item usually satisfies most people for a 8–12 hour flight. If you like something lighter before boarding, the cold zaru soba or a plain kake udon stays under ¥700 and doesn’t feel heavy at cruising altitude. Kids often share a larger bowl, which trims both cost and waste.

One tip: Kineya Mugimaru is before security in T1, so factor in at least 20–30 minutes afterward to clear checks and reach your gate, especially for US-bound flights where secondary screening around the gates can add another 10 minutes.
