UY $82 gets you from MVD to Avenida Italia
From T1 at Carrasco Airport, Cutcsa 700 runs as a regular city bus into Montevideo, with a fare of about UY $82 as of 2024. It is slow compared with taxis, but cheap if you are heading along Avenida Italia or toward the Tres Cruces area. The stop sits outside the terminal on the arrivals level, signed for Montevideo city buses.
The line operates roughly every 20–30 minutes during the day, with sparser service late at night after 22:00. The ride into central areas near Tres Cruces can take 45–60 minutes depending on traffic on Avenida Italia. Pay the driver in cash pesos when boarding; cards are hit-or-miss on this route, so walk out of T1 with some local currency in your pocket.
Cutcsa 700 works best if your hotel or Airbnb sits near Avenida Italia, Unión, or within a short taxi hop of Tres Cruces bus terminal. From the airport it heads west along Avenida Italia, passing residential neighborhoods before reaching busier zones closer to the center. If you are staying in Ciudad Vieja or along the Rambla, expect to transfer at Tres Cruces or switch to a taxi from one of the major stops.
This is very much a local commute: no luggage racks, no extra space, and lots of stops along Avenida Italia. Figure on standing if you board after 08:00 or around 18:00 when commuters pack the bus. With a large checked-size suitcase, keep it by your feet rather than blocking the front door, since the driver uses that space constantly for boarding passengers and cash payments.
Watch out for late arrivals after midnight, when Cutcsa 700 service drops and gaps can stretch beyond 30 minutes. In that case, a taxi from the official stand at T1, even at around UY $1,300–1,600 to central Montevideo, might be worth the time saved. In daytime, though, the bus trims your costs dramatically compared with rideshares or private transfers.
