Horsefly Brewery

Gate-side craft beer at MTJ’s Horsefly Brewery

Ten minutes from check-in to the single security line in Terminal 1 puts you right by Horsefly Brewery, the airport outpost of the Montrose original. It sits post-security in the small main hall, so you can watch the one or two active gates while you eat. Seating runs to a couple dozen barstools and tables, so it feels more like a neighborhood bar than an airport stand.

Local beer is the draw: expect 6–10 Horsefly taps pouring IPAs, ambers, and seasonals brewed in Montrose. A pint usually runs in the $7–$9 range, with occasional samplers if they’re not slammed around the afternoon bank of Denver flights. If you care about beer more than food, this is the only true craft option inside MTJ.

Food is basic pub fare: think burgers, wings, and sandwiches in the $12–$18 range, plus fries and a couple of shareable appetizers. Portions lean generous for a small regional airport, and it generally beats grabbing a pre-made wrap from the cooler by the check-in counters. You’re still eating airport bar food, so treat anything fried as the safer bet versus salads.

Hours track flight schedules rather than a strict 9–5; they tend to open at least an hour before the first departure and close after the last evening flight, especially on Denver and Dallas days. On light traffic days, you may see shorter hours, so don’t bank on a late-night beer after that last United arrival from DEN.

Tip: MTJ security usually takes under 15 minutes, but lines spike before the morning and late-afternoon banks, so clear security first, then sit at Horsefly’s bar within sight of your exact gate and board when they call your group.
