Military and dependents only get access to the USO Lounge at MSY
This USO center sits landside in Terminal 1, so you can use it both before check-in and after collecting bags. Entry is limited to active-duty military, Guard, Reserve, retirees with proper ID, and dependents, so have your military ID or dependent card ready at the door.
MSY’s terminal is single-building, and the USO is on the public side, so plan to arrive at the airport at least 30–45 minutes earlier than normal if you want a sit-down break here before clearing TSA. Because it’s landside, you also can stop in on arrival, even if New Orleans is your final stop and you’re leaving through baggage claim.
The lounge is smaller than the USO setups at mega-hubs like ATL or DFW, and hard details on the exact layout are limited, but you can count on the usual USO basics: soft seating, TV, snacks, and drinks at no charge. Bring a charging cable; outlets fill quickly at MSY, and the USO usually has a few more open plugs than the public gate areas.
Hours at MSY track typical USO patterns and lean toward daytime and evening; if your flight leaves after 22:00, don’t bank on it being open the whole time. On early-morning departures before 06:00, treat the lounge as a bonus if it’s open, not a guaranteed pre-flight stop.
Because this center is landside, you’re still facing standard TSA queues afterward, which at MSY can stretch to 20–30 minutes in peaks around the 06:00–09:00 and 15:00–18:00 banks. If you want both a USO visit and time to grab a local bite by the gates, budget at least 90 minutes from curb to boarding.
Practical tip: use the USO for a quick reset on arrival, then head upstairs to check-in or straight to the rideshare area on Level 1 within 10–15 minutes, rather than lingering so long you get caught in outbound security rushes.
