Chapel Quiet Room

MSY’s Terminal 1 has a public Chapel Quiet Room

The Chapel Quiet Room at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport sits inside the main Terminal 1 complex and functions as a free, public quiet space rather than a traditional airline lounge. No airline status, lounge card, or day pass needed; you just walk in during terminal operating hours, which typically mirror the first departures around 4:30–5:00 a.m. through the last late-night bank.

This space is set up more like a small chapel/meditation room than a seating lounge, so don’t expect recliners, showers, or buffet food like you’d see in the Priority Pass rooms at other airports. You’re looking at simple seating, low noise, and a place to sit with your carry-on between flights from gates in Terminal 1. It’s on the sterile side of the building, so you still stay within the secure area once you’ve cleared TSA.

The Chapel Quiet Room costs $0 to use, which compares well to the $59–$79 per visit you’d pay at many US pay-per-use lounges. That said, there are no free drinks, no snack spread, and no front desk. If you want coffee or water, you’ll need to grab it from one of the terminal’s food outlets or a Hudson News-style shop near your gate in Terminal 1 before heading in to sit.

Because MSY is a compact single-terminal airport, you’re usually within a 5–7 minute walk of your gate once you leave the Chapel Quiet Room. There are standard terminal restrooms nearby, but no dedicated bathroom or shower inside the room itself. Seating is first-come, first-served, and there’s no published capacity number, so during peak morning banks around 6:00–8:00 a.m. it may feel tight.

There’s no official list of amenities, but you should assume basic airport chairs, quiet signage, and minimal decoration rather than private nap pods or lie-flat chairs. Power outlets may be limited compared with the new gate seating in other parts of MSY’s 972,000-square-foot North Terminal, so charge up at your gate or a cafe before settling in.

Practical tip: budget 10 extra minutes to find the Chapel Quiet Room in Terminal 1 on your first visit, then set an alarm on your phone for 30–40 minutes before boarding, since there are no departure boards or announcements guaranteed inside a quiet-space room.
