Gate 13 bar for a last-minute Wisconsin Old Fashioned

Launch Deck Bar sits right by Gate 13 in the Main terminal, past security, so this is an easy stop if you’re flying American or Delta out of Madison. It’s a true bar-first setup, with counter seating facing the concourse and a few high-tops for small groups. Pricing runs about mid-range for an airport ($$), so think standard domestic beer and cocktail prices, not luxury-hotel levels.

Hours run Monday–Friday from 4:30 a.m. until the last scheduled departure, then Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to last departure, which lines up well with the morning bank of flights. Early weekday departures can still get a drink or snack before a 6:00 a.m. boarding call. Late-night operations mirror the departure board, so if flights are still going out, the bar usually stays open.

The headliner here is the Wisconsin Old Fashioned, built the local way with brandy instead of bourbon. If you only have time for one drink before your American flight to ORD or a Delta leg to MSP, make it that. Beer lists skew heavily Midwestern, so expect regional names on tap alongside national macros. Food is basic bar fare; think quick bites to carry back to a seat near Gate 13 rather than a full, timed-out meal.

Seating can be tight during the 4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. push when multiple Main terminal flights board from neighboring gates. Power outlets are limited at the bar itself, so don’t plan on charging a dead laptop while you work through a second Old Fashioned. Service pace tracks flight loads: decent on mid-morning Tuesdays, slower during Friday evenings when every seat at Gate 13 and 14 fills.

Tip: if your boarding pass shows a tight connection out of MSN, place your order at Launch Deck Bar to-go and carry it to the chairs directly across from Gate 13 so you can hear every boarding announcement.
